Art that had some people surprised

I was in Dayton the other day and was walking around looking at these sculptures. This artist, J. Seward Johnson, has a sculpture walk called “City Life” that he created to tour different cities. Anyway, some of them are pretty life-like, especially the window washer. I have spoken with several people who got spooked when they saw them. They thought they were real. I have a friend who was waiting on one to cross the street. It took his mom pointing out to him they were bronze :) . He would have been waiting a long time, until August 17 actually, that is when the exhibit leaves Dayton. Well while I was down there, I took some photos which I am posting for everyone to see here. Enjoy, and if you are close and have the chance to stop into Dayton and see them, I suggest doing it.

Trailers and Indie animations

Over the past couple days I have been addicted. I have been addicted to a “little” game called Guitar Hero II. You may have heard of it. It no longer surprises me why so many play this game. It is also a great to have people up and moving again while playing games.

The second game I would like to comment on is Transformers the game. I do not know how good the game will be as of yet, but the trailer is another addition to Blur’s list of wonderful cinematic artwork. There are several videos showing trailers for the game and also a nice interview with the guys at Blur about their new cinematic.

Finally, I saw today what looks like a really interesting animated short, called Ark. It was created by Grzegorz Jonkajtys and Marcin Kobylecki, both of whom worked on The Cathedral and Fallen Art over at Platige in Poland. Both of these earlier works are great and everyone should check out. Nice creative use of the CG media. Anyway, their new piece looks to be just as good. It is touring now and will be available to see on dvd in about a year. There is a small story on it over at CGSociety, which you can find here. I love work like this and it really gets me thinking about what new work I want to create in the future.

Movies anyone?

If anyone hasn’t seen it yet, you should check out the new trailer from Pixar. It is a very cool way of doing an early trailer. The movie is called “Wall-E.” The whole trailer is a build up of previous sketches from earlier movies with some Pixar creators talking. Then the last couple seconds they show a tiny teaser of the movie. If there was ever a resemblance to Short-Circuit, this is it! Anyway, go check it out, because its a really cool trailer.

Also, it seems there will be another epic-like movie. This one is called “The Golden Compass.” I look forward to these movies. I am a sucker for movies like this one. I love it when futuristic times are mixed with past – where machines resemble older 19th century machines but do things we cannot yet achieve. Oh and witches and talking Polar Bears are sweet too. Plus, you have to love Sam Elliot in a role like this one. :) Check it out, I’ll be waiting to see it.

New Additions

I keep working on this site, trying to finish it, adding piece by piece.  I have just added some links on my links page, some images in my gallery, a contact form, and a link to my resume.  Next will be the addition of my animations if I can figure out how to add them into the page, then I need to find a better way to display my resume.  It’ll all be in here soon enough.
